Oktoberfest Contests
Black River Falls, WI – Join the fun and enter a contest during the Black River Area Oktoberfest, taking place October 4, 2008 at Sand Creek Brewing Company!
For the second year in a row, a pumpkin-decorating contest and a dessert contest will be held in conjunction with all the festivities planned throughout the Oktoberfest celebration. Wal-Mart Super Center will be the major sponsor for the contests and contest chairperson, Carly Dobson, Personnel Manager at Wal-Mart, is very excited about the upcoming event. “We are thrilled to help coordinate this part of the Oktoberfest celebration,” she says. “We are hoping to get entire families involved and look forward to a fun-filled day.”
There will be age categories for the pumpkin-decorating contest and the pumpkins can be painted or carved. Use your imagination, originality and just have fun with your ideas. The dessert contest will be themed, either using apples or pumpkin in the recipes. The desserts will be judged on taste, presentation and ease of preparation and recipes should be included with entries. All contest items are to be delivered to the loading dock area of Sand Creek Brewery, Third and Pierce Streets, between 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. the day of the event. A panel of independent judges will judge the contests. Winners will be announced during the noon hour and prizes will be awarded. Contest registration forms are now available at the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce (BRACC) or on the website www.blackrivercountry.net.
One of the other activities planned throughout the day is the Foundation Trail Walk that will be held as a fund-raiser for the maintenance fund of the scenic Foundation Trail that encircles the city of Black River Falls. For people who want to participate, but cannot walk the trail, the walk organizers plan to have golf cart rides around the trail available for a small fee. Pledge forms for the Foundation Trail Walk will soon be available at BRACC, Jackson County Bank, Black River Memorial Hospital and Co-op Credit Union.
Though this is only the second year of what will surely grow into a grand tradition, organizers have planned a wide variety of other activities for the whole family. Enjoy local artisans, countywide retail store specials, brewery tours throughout the day, and a Show and Shine Antique Car and Motorcycle Show. Other children’s activities include games; face painting and Fevolden Farms Alpacas will be on display all day. Since the event coincides with Fire Prevention Week, the Black River Falls Fire Department will have an open house at the fire hall. A variety of music will entertain throughout the day and there will be plenty of food and drink at the brewery.
