Black River Falls Oktoberfest 2008
Join the fun and start a new tradition at the Black River Falls Oktoberfest, taking place October 4, 2008 at Sand Creek Brewing Company!
“Autumn is such a wonderful time in the Black River Falls area, and we’ll have so many examples of that on hand during the festival,” said Barbara Brower, executive director of the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce (BRACC). “It’s a great time to celebrate Wisconsin’s German heritage and just enjoy a day of fun with friends and neighbors!” “Not only do we have an opportunity to promote our beautiful area, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be used to lend aid to our neighbors in southern Wisconsin affected by the recent floods.”
Though this is only the second year of what will surely grow into a grand tradition, organizers have planned a wide variety of fun activities for the whole family. Enjoy local artisans, countywide retail store specials, brewery tours throughout the day, a fall dessert contest, and the Black River Falls Area Foundation Trail Walk. Since the event coincides with Fire Prevention Week, the Black River Falls Fire Department will have an open house at the fire hall. Next door, The Show and Shine Antique Car and Motorcycle Show takes place in the old John’s IGA parking lot. Don’t forget the music! A variety of toe-tapping tunes will provide the soundtrack from 10 am through the evening hours at the brewery.
We are looking for craft vendors to participate in the day as well as antique car and motorcycle enthusiasts to display their vehicles. Craft vendors can rent a booth space near the brewery for ten dollars for a 10’ X 10’ space or twenty dollars for a 10’ X 20’. There will be no fee for the car and motorcycle entries. Registration forms are available at the BRACC or on the website at blackrivercountry.net.
Kids have plenty to see and do, including games, a pumpkin decorating contest, face painting and Fevolden Farms Alpacas will be on exhibit all day.
And what Oktoberfest would be complete without food and drink? Plenty of tasty treats will be available, including brats, hot dogs, smoked pork and beef brisket, all washed down with Sand Creek brews and Frost Top Root Beer. The ceremonial Tapping of the Golden Keg highlights the festivities at 1 pm, when Mayor Ron Danielson will be on hand to do the honors.
Sand Creek Brewing Company is located at 320 Pierce St. in Black River Falls. The Oktoberfest is sponsored by the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce, the Black River Falls Downtown Association and Sand Creek Brewing Company.
